NavLog
Use NavLog with Claude and ChatGPT
Connect NavLog to the assistant you already use and ask about your boat in plain words: maintenance due, service history, manuals and documents, trips and recorded readings, and boat mail. Allow it to act and it can also record completed work for you.
What you need
- A NavLog account with at least one boat. The assistant sees only your own boats and records, and only what you have recorded or uploaded.
- NavLog's address for assistants:
https://navlog.io/mcp
Connect NavLog in Claude
- In Claude, open Customize › Connectors and choose Add custom connector.
- Name it NavLog, paste
https://navlog.io/mcpas the URL, and add it. - Click Connect. Claude opens NavLog: sign in, then choose read-only access, or tick Also let it act so Claude can record work, and click Allow.
- Start a chat and ask about your boat, for example “What maintenance is due on my boat?”
In Claude Code, run claude mcp add --transport http navlog https://navlog.io/mcp, then use /mcp to sign in to NavLog.
Connect NavLog in ChatGPT
- Open NavLog in ChatGPT's plugin directory and click Install plugin.
- Connect it, sign in to NavLog, choose read-only or Also let it act, and click Allow.
Things to ask
- “What maintenance is due on my boat?” The boat's maintenance program from NavLog: what is overdue and what is coming up, with the due date or engine hours for each task. Nothing is marked done.
- “Find my generator manual.” The matching document's name and type, what NavLog read from it (such as the equipment it covers and any maintenance schedule), and a download link that expires after about ten minutes.
- “Show my latest trip and its readings.” The most recent recorded trip with its start, end and distance, and the readings your NavLog Core recorded. If no trip is recorded, it says so instead of inventing one.
- “What did the boat report most recently?” The newest position, batteries, tanks and engine readings your Core recorded on a trip, and how old they are.
- “Are any quotes or bills waiting on me?” Quotes, bills, appointments and parts on order that NavLog pulled from your boat's mail, each with the message it came from.
- “We changed the generator oil today at 412 hours.” With permission to act: NavLog records the oil change with today's date and 412 hours, against the generator's oil-change task when one is tracked, and the entry shows in NavLog's activity feed, where you can undo it.
If something isn't in your record, NavLog says it is missing rather than guessing. It never fills in instrument values your boat didn't report.
Permissions, Undo and disconnecting
- Read-only connections can look things up but can't change anything.
- Permission to act also lets the assistant record completed work and hour readings, add equipment or crew, add, change, move or defer maintenance tasks, and give NavLog documents to file. Changes to your maintenance program, equipment, crew and service records are recorded in NavLog's activity feed with Undo (the newest show on Home under Done for you); a document an assistant sends is kept in your boat's files, where you can delete it. Through NavLog's own assistant it can also save or forget the notes NavLog keeps about you and your boats; those changes aren't in the activity feed.
- Make a connection read-only or disconnect it any time in NavLog under Settings › Connections › Assistants. Disconnecting stops future access right away.
What NavLog won't do
NavLog is a recordkeeping tool. Through an assistant it does not navigate or control an autopilot, buy parts or take payments, or send texts and emails for you. It is not an emergency service: if you are in danger on the water, contact the Coast Guard on VHF Channel 16 or call 911.
Privacy
What an assistant can receive from NavLog, what NavLog stores about the connection, and how the assistant's own provider handles returned information are described under “Assistants you connect” in the Privacy Policy.
